Case Study: Weald & Downland Living Museum

We don’t just supply reclaimed and recycled materials, we also help take them away!

For an insight into one of our most recent projects and how we might be able to help you, read our review below from Weald & Downland Living Museum.

“I contracted Dre, part of the Dorton Group, to carry out the removal of a large quantity of very varied materials during December 2018 and January 2019 from a storage facility belonging to the Weald & Downland Living Museum.

The storage facility had quite poor access, being situated on about ¼ mile of a disused railway line, and had been used by the museum for almost 50 years for the storage and accumulation of dismantled historic buildings, historic building materials, stock timber, asbestos and large, wheeled artefacts. A number of simple timber and corrugated iron shelters had been constructed for the protection of some of the more vulnerable dismantled buildings. The whole site had become very overgrown.

On the agreed start date, the team arrived, led by Chris Morgan with all appropriate machinery and kit for the clearance of the site and the work was carried out in a very organised and professional manner. Keys to the site were left with Chris for the duration of the project and returned without issue once completed. As the facility had no services at all (electricity, water or toilets) the team had to be completely self-sufficient.

I liaised with Chris almost every day in order to make sure they were happy with the job in hand and to meet any requirements they might have, which turned out to be very few. At all times I was kept up to date with what the team were doing and what stage of the project they were at; any issues or uncertainties were quickly flagged to me and problems resolved. As they progressed my confidence in the team was well justified as they worked quickly, efficiently and were happy to go well beyond the initial agreement of work to carry out additional tasks which were not originally foreseen.

Upon completion of the clearance project, the team left the site in excellent order.

I would not hesitate to use Dorton Reclamation again as they proved to be one of the most professional contractors I can remember employing during my time at the museum.”
